Does it kill your hands reaching into a tire to deal with rimlocks or the valve stem? Avoid hammering your hands by using a 1.25-inch PVC or wooden dowel (like an old broom handle). Cut two lengths about eight inches long, and insert them under the tire bead to hold it away from the rim. To lock the other side of the tire in place, use a tire iron on the opposite bead.
