The supplied bike and helmet numbers that some racing organizations give out seem to stick much too securely for me. I've even seen them peel the paint right off a helmet! Other clubs use paper numbers. The paper comes off without the glue. To remedy either problem I put duct tape down before I put temporary numbers on my bike or my helmet. After the event the tape peels off easily, and it takes the numbers with it.
