First Look: 2005 KTM Line

Text Size

KTM's 2005 line-up features improvements to nearly every bike in their wide spectrum of sizes and models. Major changes to all models (125 and up) include a new, stronger frame, improved suspension and stronger brakes. Slight changes to the body work have made big improvements in the ergonomics allowing greater rider maneuverability. Upgrades in the already high-quality materials and components add to the comfort, performance and durability of the 2005 KTMs.

The new frame is made from oval lateral chrome-moly tubing, and offers greater stiffness without increasing weight. The forks have redesigned tubes—both inner and outer—resulting in less friction and improved performance. All 2005 SX and E/XC models come stock with Brembo brakes, Excel rims and hydraulic clutches.

2005 KTM E/XC

New for the E/XC models is a stronger, one-piece, cast swing-arm. The stronger frame and swing-arm were designed to reinforce the improved suspension, resulting in quicker, more responsive handling.

The handlebars are Magura aluminum, and the rims were changed from D.I.D. to Excel (except 125 and 200). The digital speedometer was redesigned, and is now smaller and with more functions.

2005 KTM E/XC RFS

The Racing Four-Stroke KTMs feature an electric start with optimized ignition timing, and a more powerful battery for reliable starting in extreme conditions. They come stock with Magura aluminum bars, Excel rims, and an O-ring chain.

The M/XC "desert racing" shares changes with the E/XC models, along with a larger 3.9 gallon tank and a radiator fan. KTM streamlined their cross-country line for 2005 with only three M/XC models: 450, 525, and the 300 two-stroke.

2005 KTM SX

Changes in the KTM SX line include new triple-clamps made from CNC-machined aluminum. The adjustable fork off-set allows riders to adjust the trail, and the new shape of the combustion chamber increases compression and creates more power.

The 200 SX model has been removed, and the 85 SX is now availible in both small- and big-wheel versions. The 105 SX has been replaced by a factory 105cc Conversion Kit availible consisting of cylinder, cylinder head, piston, gaskets and a capacity sticker.
